World Institute on Disability: Non-profit organization dedicated to promoting independence and societal inclusion of people with disabilities

Council for Disability Awareness: Disability Can Happen: Awareness and prevention of and planning for disability.

National Disability Rights Network: Protection of and advocacy for people with disabilities; national and state resources and referrals.

Disability Rights California: California’s protection and advocacy system protecting the rights of people with disabilities through legislation, legal action and advocacy. Free resources and publications.

Housing Rights Center: Education and advocacy for rights of people with disabilities in housing.

University of California at Berkeley Disability Rights and Independent Living Movement: A history of the disability rights and independent living movement from the 1960s to the present.

Western Law Center on Disability Rights: Promotes the rights of people with disabilities by providing legal services on disability-related rights issues.

 


 

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

State of CA Department of Education: Special Education

Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF): Advocates for civil rights for people with disabilities through the advancement of federal and state laws that further disability civil rights and through trainings and publications on disability rights laws and policies.

 


 

ASSISTANCE RESOURCES

Personal Assistance Council of Los Angeles County: Serves as the employer of record for over 151,000 In Home Supportive Services (IHSS) providers; operates a registry to provide referrals for IHSS consumers and providers.

Certified Access Specialist (CASp) Property Inspection: The public can learn the benefits of hiring a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) through the Division of the State Architect (DSA) to inspect buildings and sites for compliance with applicable state and federal construction-related accessibility standards.

County of Los Angeles Commission on Disabilities: Advises the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on a range of issues affecting the lives of people with disabilities.

ACCESS Services: Paratransit services for residents of Los Angeles County.

Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health: resources for obtaining mental health services. (Crisis line (800) 854-7771)

Pacific ADA Center: ADA-required regional technical assistance center for private businesses and local government.

State California Department of Developmental Services: Agency providing services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

California Department of Rehabilitation: Works in partnership with consumers and other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy resulting in employment and independent living for individuals with disabilities.

U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy: Information, technical assistance and resources for employment of people with disabilities.

U.S. Department of Transportation: For questions or concerns regarding public transportation for persons with disabilities.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: Administers benefits and provides healthcare for disabled veterans of the U.S. armed forces.
