City of Beverly Hills Repeals Certain Emergency Regulations Related to the COVID-19 Urgency Ordinance
Beverly Hills, CA – The Beverly Hills City Council voted Thursday to repeal certain local COVID-19 related emergency regulations and align with both the State of California and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH).
The following items have been removed from the City’s Urgency Ordinance, effective immediately:
- Social distancing requirements for patrons waiting in queues;
- Special health and safety measures for employees and customers including but not limited to any additional glove and mask requirements the City had imposed beyond state and federal guidelines;
- Prohibition on the increase in Internet access fees;
- Prohibition of the sale of self-service unwrapped food items (such as buffets);
- Suspending the prohibition on non-recyclable bags.
The Council also voted to align with LACDPH guidelines that require unvaccinated individuals to wear face coverings when indoors such as inside City Hall and its facilities. Following the County’s guidance related to Youth Centers, the Beverly Hills Public Library, Community Centers and Greystone Mansion will require face coverings regardless of vaccination status due to the presence of children under the age of 12 inside those facilities.
Employers and workplaces must continue to comply with Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards. Employers may allow fully vaccinated employees not to wear face coverings indoors, but must document their vaccination status.
At the upcoming City Council meeting on July 15, the City Council will consider updates to additional items in the urgency ordinance including:
- Suspension of penalties and interest on business taxes;
- Duration for imposition of restrictions on 3rd party delivery services;
- Timeline for enforcement of the City’s sign and banner code;
- Delegation to the City Manager to issue street closure permits and other permits for outdoor dining;
- Loading zones to facilitate curbside pickup;
- Prohibition on residential evictions for nonpayment of rent and prohibition of rent increases.
Beginning July 15, City Council meetings will resume in-person and continue to be offered virtually for the public’s convenience with Commission meetings expected to follow in the coming weeks.
